Linking people who want to give with people who need to receive.
The GIVIT List
GIVIT is grateful to all the volunteers and donors who have eased the suffering for our fellow Australians affected by the floods. As we have had the Premier's endorsement - we are the main channel for hundreds of (local and national) donations each day to those in need. We have only one new campaign as we are connecting groups via our administration - but the situation in still dire for many Australians. We ask that you are patient and hold your donations (in the Virtual Warehouse) while people complete the massive cleanup and rebuild their homes. Your generous donations are required, but not neccesarily this week.
People (and schools) around the Darling Downs, Dalby, Chinchilla, Condamine, Tara and St George require menswear work wear, children's shoes and school supplies to be posted. Please see our Campaigns Page for more information.
Please see our new Webathon Page if you are in need of assistance - we can help you directly.
If you are a retailer or service provider you can register your business with Floods Discount as people now need to rebuild their homes. Flood victims also need to find accomodation (ph1300 998 603) before they can accept donations.
If you are working in the community with people in need and require items contact Juliette@givit.org.au as we have thousands of donations ready including clothes, make-up, sanitary items, cleaning equipment, bulk insect repellents and skilled volunteers.

If you are not registered for the weekly GIVIT list Register here.
We ask for new, or as new quality items.
During the week of morning classes breakfast was provided and due to popular request this is the recipe.
I have used a flour mill to ground the grains, but we spoke about using a coffee grinder or even a blender that may do the trick... let me know how you go if you try this.

PORRIAGE recipe in detail
Depending if you are gluten intolerant or will determine the choice of grains you use. Oats is yummy but can be hard to digest. I’ve also used Buckwheat and Polenta.

The mix I used was Quinoa, Amaranth, Millet and Brown Rice. Quantity you can play with according to taste and budget as some grains are more exy. You can buy the whole grains from most health food shops. When you grind it yourself most nutritional value remains not to mention taste. Check out what the supermarkets sell if on a budget but generally health food shops will sell better quality grains. Nutriente is the local one to Clayfield

Boil the kettle - for every cup of grain there is 5 cups of hot water.

In a deep saucepan heat a good heaped table spoon of coconut oil. (you can also use ghee) ask health food shop for a good oil to fry in as its worth it.

Once grain has been grounded add to saucepan and lightly fry till golden brown (or a light nutty aroma be smelt) Remove from heat to cool down before adding water... you’ll know what I mean when the water spurts everywhere.

Add boiled water as you keep stirring until mixture is of smooth texture. You can add spices like cinnamon, ground ginger or cardamon for extra flavor

Its best to start the cooking the night before so the grain can absorb as much water as possible rather then taking the water from you. But if this is not the case then turn down low and let simmer for 10 - 20 min but keep stirring as will stick to bottom. (another reason I like to do the night before as you can put on a lid and turn off... then reheat in morning continually stirring, add extra water if need.

OPTIONAL ADDITIONS
- Add fruit and or seeds during cooking for easier digestion or add at end (note: seeds mixed with grains make a complete protein)
- a dollop of Yoghurt
- Honey or Argave (taste like golden syrup)
- Dried fruit is another option - goji berries are great
