SUMMARY:Beginners Meditation Course
DESCRIPTION:A 4 week beginner’s course – Meditation for Inner Stillness and Joy\nHave you felt the call to meditate? Are you intrigued by the practice? Or are you feeling the need for stillness; for a way to calm the turbulence of the mind\, and connect with your Self?\nMeditation is a beautiful practice that will evolve and change as you move through life. There are a variety of techniques to discover\, as each has its benefits that support different aspects of our lives. \n\nJay Shetty explains\, “practice Breathwork for the physical benefits of finding stillness and balance to calm yourself. Practise Visualization practices for the psychological benefits of healing the past and preparing for the future. Practice Sound/Mantra/chanting for the psychic benefits of connecting with your deeper self and the universe for purification.”\n\nBy beginning meditation within a group environment\, we feel safe and supported on our inward journey\, and can connect with others who share our intentions\, becoming inspired and motivated to practice. \nThe benefits from a mediation practice: \n\nIncreases your ability to remain calm in stressful situations\nHelps calm anxiety\nImproves breathing and heart rate\nImproves sleep patterns\nHas a positive effect on chronic pain\nIncreases creativity \nPromotes a feeling of peace\n\nIn this 4-week beginners course we will delve into the practice of meditation. We will cultivate the desire to sit with your Self\, with the inner stillness\, to find joy and live our most peaceful life. Meditation is a practice\, a beautiful practice that will evolve and change as we move through life. \nWith gentle guidance\, you will explore different practices each week:\nMindfulness – the ability to be fully present\, aware of where you are and what you’re doing\, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s happening around you. \nMantra – a word or sound repeated to aid concentration and to help release your mind or get into the right frame of mind.  \nLoving-Kindness – is a great way to focus on cultivating goodwill\, kindness and compassion towards ourselves and others.   \nSelf-study or Svadhyaya – Taking a step back and observing your actions allows you to disentangle from aspects of your life that are harmful to your wellbeing.  \nMeditation is a beautiful practice that will evolve and change as we move through life. Starting simple with easy techniques that only need repeating\, you will begin to reap the benefits very quickly.   \nSunday’s 6:15 – 7:15 pm\n4 weeks commencing from 12th March\n\nClick here to Book into full course $95\n\nOr student drop in $30.  Select the classes below you want to book into:\n\n12 March – Mindfulness\n19 March – Mantra\n26 March – Loving Kindness\n2 April – Self-Study / Svadhyaya\n\n\nWeek One – 12 March – Mindfulness\n\nMeditation for Inner Stillness and Joy is a beginners’ course that will cover 4 techniques each week. \n\n\n \n\n\nWeek one is sharing practices to help bring your attention to the present moment so you can be aware of where and what you are doing. This is called Mindfulness. This is a state where you are not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what is happening around you.\n\n\n \n\n\nAttitude of mindfulness is being non-judgemental\, instead\, be an impartial witness. Patience is a form of wisdom\, where you accept that things sometimes unfold in their own time. \n\n\nStay in the “Beginner’s Mind” to remain open and curious. Be receptive to new possibilities. \n\n\nDevelop trust in yourself and your feelings. Know it’s OK to make mistakes. Pay attention to what is unfolding without trying to change anything. Seeing things as they are sets the stage for acting appropriately in your life no matter what is happening.\n\n\n\n \n\n\nWeek two – 19 March – Mantra – a word or sound repeated to aid concentration and to help release your mind or get into the right frame of mind.  \n \nWeek three – 26 March – Loving-Kindness – is a great way to focus on cultivating goodwill\, kindness and compassion towards ourselves and others.   \n \nWeek four – 2 April – Self-study or Svadhyaya – Self Reflecting is taking a step back to observe your actions allows you to disentangle from aspects of your life that are harmful to your wellbeing. \n

SUMMARY:Happy Hips for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:How to have Happy Hips – with Alana Wagner\nCome along to all 4 classes or just drop in\nWorking on your hips and pelvis is essential when finding steadiness and strength in yoga poses and general functional movements in your day-to-day activities. \nEach week will include elements of yoga philosophy and spirituality\, as well as accessible ways to incorporate mindfulness and relaxation into your day-to-day life. \n \n🔸7th Feb\, Week 1: – An introduction to yoga fundamentals – feel how your body moves\, notice how you breathe and explore the range of movement available specifically in the hips and pelvis.  \n🔸14th Feb\, Week 2: Hamstrings and Hip flexors – using props to find release and building awareness of ‘good’ stretching. \n🔸21 Feb\, Week 3: Core and Glutes – strengthening and stabilising in standing postures (lunges and balances).  \n🔸28th Feb\, Week 4: Yin for Hips – long deep holds to stretch and nurture hips and associated muscle groups. \nWhether you are brand new to yoga or want to strip back your practice; these classes invite you to explore a holistic approach to helping your hips release stiffness\, tension and discomfort caused by minimal physical movement (lots of sitting) and stored emotions.     \nEach session will be an invitation to take a closer look within yourself to observe;  how you feel in your body;  \n\nhow you are breathing; \nwhere your mind is wandering or focusing on; \nwhat is essential at our core; \nand what makes your heart happy. \n\nAs everybody needs something different\nAlana will help you awaken your inner teacher. There are various ways to find what works best for your body\, mind and heart in each yoga posture. \nLearning good physical alignment helps avoid common problems as you build on your body’s capabilities and keep your mind in a happy place despite the arising challenges.  \nBreath work (pranayama) is one of your practice’s most vital aspects. When you connect to your breath\, you link to a  \nsource of inner calmness and stillness. Your breath is the thread that ties our yoga practice together. Harmonising your body and mind via each inhale and exhale rhythm. Breath-work enhances the connection to the deep pelvic region of your Mula Bandha (root energy lock or pelvic floor muscle activation). Engagement of your Mula Banda helps build stability within your pelvis and awareness of your range of movement.   \nBuild stability around your hips and pelvis by strengthening and stretching hip flexors\, hamstrings\, glutes\, and core. Alana will show you have to use a variety of props to assist (stretching bands\, rolling balls\, blocks\, straps\, etc.). Stability is essential when finding steadiness and strength in your functional movements in day-to-day activities\, supporting better posture\, balance\, and freedom of movement.  \nMoments of mindfulness and meditation whilst weaving in a few fundamental concepts of yoga philosophy. These more inward practices can all be shaped and applied to this modern day and in a way that resonates with whatever feels most natural to you\, that which lights you up inside. \nOnce stability has been created\, in the following classes\, Alana will guide you through a series of commonly practiced postures traditionally called Sun Salutations in Yoga.   \nDrop-ins are welcome to any of the sessions. \nWhen: 7th\, 14th\, 21st\, 28th February. \nTime: 7 – 8:30 pm \nCost:  $95 for 4 classes / $30 for drop in \nBOOKINGS OPEN

SUMMARY:Begin the New Year with Gratitude
DESCRIPTION:Begin the New Year with Gratitude\nIf wanting a new year of greater abundance\, first acknowledge and appreciate the abundance you already as this is your driving force. \nThe Class has passed but you can still follow along with our daily posts on Facebook or Instagram\nDaily recalling is proven to rewire your brain. You are training your mind to notice and to attract. Gratitude is like a magnet; the more grateful you are\, the more you will receive\, which makes you more grateful.   \nResearch into daily practices of Gratitude help: \n\nImprove your health. Less stress on your heart and less worry mean less strain on your immune system. \nYou can deal with adversity to build strong relationships. Be inspired to say thank you. Connect with others and strengthen your relationships.\nFeeling optimistic and happier decreases anxiety. Getting a good night’s sleep gives you more energy to be productive throughout the day\, stay active\, and stick to your healthy routines.\n\nJournaling is a great way to make your attitude of Gratitude a habit. Writing things down helps build awareness. It can bring everyday joys buried in the back of your mind to the forefront of your consciousness.  \nHow to start cultivating Gratitude? \nYoga means Union. It is a scientific practice that\, when practised\, regularly brings you back to a more united body\, mind and spirit. Here you are more Mindful. The more aware you are\, the more you notice small details in everyday life.  \nBreathing practices (Pranayama) tune your mind to your body’s constant rhythm. You are perfect already at breathing; you only need to pay more attention to it. Breathing practices help calm and settle\, which allows you to focus more clearly and concentrate longer. From a tranquil state of mind\, we naturally feel more grateful.  \nMeditation follows much more effortlessly; these practices continue to build your concentration.   \nYoga poses are taught because your body naturally takes a certain posture according to your emotions. You slump when you are tired or sad; when you are happy and alert\, you sit taller. Consciously getting your body into specific postures can change how you feel\, think\, understand\, and even experience life.   \nGratitude is an emotion that originates and grows from our heart’s centre.  \nOur class may have finish but you can still attend our ongoing classes to partake in the yogic practices that support and open your heart. All of our classes will guide you to slow down\, listen to your inner self\, and connect to those feelings of Gratitude already waiting within you to make 2023 a beautiful abundant year.  \nCLASS TIMETABLE OVER VIEW \nBOOK INTO A CLASS TIME THAT SUITS \nCLASS DESCRIPTIONS

SUMMARY:YogaPhysio Front Body Opening
DESCRIPTION:Opening your Front Body is a gentle way to strengthen your Back Body.  \nWhen we spend a lot of our time nowadays in chairs\, we start to look like chairs. \nLong periods of sitting affects your posture by shortening your hip flexors and slumping your shoulders forward. Not attended to can lead to an increased thoracic kyphosis (rounded upper back) from weakened back muscles and tight pectoral muscles curving your spine.  \nBack-bending classes are great to help counter these postural tendencies\, but they can be a little too strong\, especially if you are new to yoga.   \nIn this workshop\, you will explore gentle ‘front opening’ positions that are more accessible for everyone. An excellent practical workshop that you will leave 2cm taller!! \nThis workshop will benefit everybody.\nMainly if you are desk-bound\, drive heaps\, or spend extended periods on your smart devices. You may already experience messages in your body like neck pain\, back pain\, or even hip pain. If you do\, this extended practice will explore all the postures that reverse these occupational tendencies in an educational and experiential workshop. \nTamara will finish with a long\, relaxing Yoga Nidra (a guided relaxation practice) to rest and digest the session and relax the most overactive muscle of all – the mind. \nFor teachers attending the workshop\, you will be training your eye to notice your students’ bodies to better cater for their needs in your classes. \nWhen: SUNDAY 23rd Oct\nTime: 1 – 4pm \nCost: $75\n BOOK IN HERE\n \nTam is a qualified and registered physiotherapist since 1994. She has extensive experience in treating a variety of problems ranging from acute injury to long-term persisting pain. Wide-ranging hospital and outpatient experience have equipped her to consider the needs of clients with different health conditions. She worked for 8 years in pain management centers alongside doctors\, psychologists\, and occupational therapists including St Thomas Hospital\, London\, and Parogic\, Brisbane. \nTam has been practising yoga since 1994 and teaching since 1998. She obtained her yoga teaching qualification with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) in the United Kingdom; is a current senior-level 3 member of Yoga Australia (YA) and has completed a Diploma of Yoga Therapy with Yoga Therapy Australia. \nShe has studied yoga with senior teachers in the United Kingdom\, India\, and Australia. Her yoga therapy training was with Dr. NC (N Chandrasekaran) who is a medical doctor and yoga therapist with in excess of 25 years of practice delivering this training\, which expounds on how traditional applications of yoga complement current medical practice. This 3-year training\, included an internship in Dr. NC’s Chennai clinic\, a uniques and rewarding opportunity. \nTam has studied Yoga and meditation beyond her yoga teacher training with numerous teachers in India and spent regular retreat periods in guided and self-directed\, silent meditation. We are very fortunate to have her share her knowledge with us.

SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Flow to Restore
DESCRIPTION:WINTER SOLSTICE FLOW & RESTORE\nWinter Solstice Flow & Restore is a workshop intended to guide you from the everyday challenges of life into a relaxed\, calm space\, & from contraction to rejuvenation.\nThroughout history winter solstice – the shortest day of the year – has been a significant time of year in many cultures\, and has been marked by festivals and rituals. \nThe term solstice actually means ‘sun standing still”. From here onwards the days gradually become lighter until the summer solstice – the longest day of the year – then the cycle begins again.  \nFLOW: We begin with a reclined mediation\, then a flow of mindful breath. From this centred place\, your slow flow will incorporate postures chosen to release the tension you may be holding in your body. Not only will you ground\, centre & balance\, but increase mobility.  \nRESTORE: The second part of the experience is in deep relaxation with longer held\, supported postures to help repair and restore your entire system\, & of course a deliciously generous Savasana. From this place of rejuvenation\, you are then open to flourishing. \nSaturday\, June 18th\, 2 – 4 pm\nEarly-bird $44 to June 10\, or $55 afterwards (incl. gst)\nSaturday 18th June\nTime: 2 – 4 pm\nBOOK YOUR SPOT HERE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKylie shares that her Slow Flow Yoga Class will be similar to\, though much more relaxed than a vinyasa sequence.\nIt will incorporate the same linking of asana (the postures) & steady style of breath to pace transitions\, with way less intensity.\n\nWhen the breath & asana are linked there is a flowing effect\, riding waves of breath while moving in and out of each asana.\nWhen breath initiates the movement we can receive deep physiological stress reduction.\nThe workshop will continue into restorative yoga\, the ideal practice to go deeper still

SUMMARY:Beginning Yoga -12 March
DESCRIPTION:From solid foundations\, a stronger and more confident yoga practice is built.   \nThis is the first in a series of workshops Senior Teacher Tanya and Nicole will run throughout 2022.\nBoth will take students through all elements that have proven to support a well-rounded successful Yoga practice. \nWeaving in where scientific research is able to prove the benefits yoga practitioners have known for millennia: Yoga is incredibly beneficial to our overall well-being. \nOur time will be educational but more so experiential in a range of techniques to help beginners start as well as options to support experienced students to sink roots in a lot deeper. \n\nWhere to begin with Yoga\nTaking care of your body\, uplifting your mind\, and lovingly connecting with your true self.  \n\nThe effect yoga has on your body\, mind\, and spirit is becoming mainstream.  From sincere\, skillful\, and consistent practice\, you can break through self-limiting and self-immobilising thoughts and behaviours to find freedom\, peace\, and strength to lift yourself up and be the best version of yourself. \n\n\nAt Clayfield Yoga Studio our senior teachers recognise there is quite a lot for a beginner to take in. So instead of rushing throught a 4 or 6 week course there is a series of monthly workshops. \n\nThe difference between students that has undergone a teacher training is the time. Lots of practice\, and patience instead of rushing through a short course. Students have a better embodiment of Yoga and are able to blend the new learnings more harmoniously with everyday life.  These workshops are not a teacher training but rather space\, time with lots of support through a transformational journey. In between each workshop\, there will be ongoing support and a social connection through a Facebook group where we can continue to dissect so it becomes easier to digest and better absorbed.\n\n\nEach workshop will weave all elements of yoga so you get the full spectrum of Yoga as a holistic practice – pranayama (breathing practices)\, asana (Yoga postures)\, mantra (affirmations)\, mudras (hand gestures)\, meditation (calming your mind)\, philosophy (past and present teachings to assist in guiding your focus and intention)\, so each time you leave feeling balanced physically\, mentally\, and energetically. \n\n\nYou will learn how: \n\nThe postures help release pent-up tension.\nTo refine your sensory awareness.\nSensitivity is how you become better skilled at being adaptive and resilient.\nLearn the relaxed rhythms of breathing to help you to reflect rather than react\, to soften rather than harden.\nFrom a calm place\, you see more clearly instead of a foggy stressed headspace.\nTo rest and let the pressure that comes from dwelling on the past or worrying about the future go. Most people don’t recognise they are functioning from stress.\n\n\nYoga is an ancient science that for years has been proven by its dedicated students to have a better handle on staying calm and grounded. \n \nWith an increase of new teachers\, you want to make sure what you are being taught isn’t watered-down from a lack of understanding and experience in this practice.  Yoga is not simple or quick but worth the practice and persistence.  To have an opportunity to learn from embodied knowledge is rare. With over 20 years of dedication\, senior teachers Tanya Zappala and Nicole Sanders are experienced and embodied in being able to hold a safe space for you to deepen your Yoga practice. \nEach workshop is uniquely themed and can be individually attended. The full series is created as a progression through the chakra system to give students a wonderful transformational journey into getting to know themselves from the ground up.  A journey that takes into account the very messy and often complex phenomenon of what we call a human being and the equally challenging task of everyday life/living. \nTanya and Nicole will share with you the successful tools they use to adapt the postures\, to begin or deepen your benefits from meditation practices\, find calmness and feel centered from better breathing practices\, and feel empowered from philosophy and where science continues to prove the effectiveness of Yoga on the human body. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION OR BOOKING IN CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:4 week yoga course - 7 Nov
DESCRIPTION:Learning something new is strengthened from refining your Basics\n…this was what I learned from my AcroYoga (Acrobatic Partner Yoga) days where if you wanted to advance\, you had to go back to basics first. \nLike many I used to roll my eyes when my teacher would say\, go back to basics first.  That was before I really understood that going back to your grassroots is the secret to an unshakeable foundation in any kind of growth.  This is what this 4-week course is about\, coming back to the foundations of a Yoga Practice. \nBack to basics is like filling in the gaps that got overlooked or missed.   \nYoga translate ‘to unite’\, a union of Body\, Mind\, and Spirit which is what makes you feel like a whole person. A true solid practice in Yoga is working on these 3 pillars and these will change as you grow and change. By going back to basics you acknowledge your progression and from there your right direction to move forward. \nTeacher Sadhguru says “Yoga is not a religion but a technology for transformation”.\nYou are not just a body\, therefore it is important to be strong\, healthy\, and flexible of mind and have some kind of relationship with your spirit.  Yoga Postures are not just physical exercises\, but a gentle way to manipulate your energy back to balance. The postures with breathing practices help to calm your nervous system preparing and training your ability to sit long enough with yourself in meditation practices where stillness and calmness can you connect with your true Self.    \nEach session will include breathing (Pranayama) practices as they teach us concentration\, invite calmness and stillness\, and a great Segway to Meditation. And a little philosophy to awaken right thought and understanding. \nWeek 1: Introduction to yoga – This is where you learn how to prepare both body and mind.  Moving with breathe shifts your practice from just going through the motions to a moving meditation.  Focusing on breathing is what increases energy and helps with concentration.  The movements help to remove stagnation\, increase circulation\, and improve flexibility in your muscles and joints. A good starting point for those new to yoga\, and preparation for other yoga practices. \nWeek 2: The lower body – Get more grounded and solid with your feet\, legs\, and hip alignment for standing\, balance\, and sitting postures as well as core activation (Mula Bandha and Uddiyana Bandha). \nWeek 3: The upper body –  When your hands become the foundation we need to protect your wrists and shoulders from injury. When twisting get more mobile in your upper body to protect your lower back and shoulders.  (Jalanadhara Bandha) \nWeek 4: Back Bends aren’t how far you can bend backward\, but with the support of your lower and upper body we avoid back pain and instead reap the benefits from strengthening our back body with is so beneficial if you do lots of sitting. Once the foundations are set in place can we move between postures with ease and grace –  finish with a guided relaxation (Yoga Nidra) \nBook In Here – course only $120\nBook Here for the course plus 30 Days extra of unlimited yoga $189
