6 week Yoga Course – commencing 1st February 202
Yoga is a fast-growing form of exercise that compliments our lives. Thanks to professional athletes, there is lots of science-based evidence proving how mental health is just as important as physical health. Yoga is as much about a personal inquiry and self-exploration as it is about learning how to be physically stronger and more flexible. This course will cover both traditional and modern approaches to Yoga and gives you simple practical tools to adjust to suit your needs. It does not matter if you are an absolute newcomer or looking to learn more, our senior teachers have the experience to support you on your journey
Gain confidence and knowledge to build a solid foundation in the fundamentals of a yoga practice. This course is designed to progress. The first week will start off with movements to prepare your body for the weeks ahead. These movements help to remove stagnation, increase circulation, and improve flexibility in your muscular system. They help to remove the stiffness accumulated overnight or from stationery, inactive lifestyle.
The following weeks will move through some of the foundational postures from Standing to Balancing, Core and Seated Poses, Forward folds, Backbends, Twists, and Inversions that persons of all ages can do. Inversions are the ultimate postures beneficial to reduce stress and fatigue from our bodies and aid in calming those busy minds. Teachers Tanya and Sharon will teach you how to modify the practice to accommodate any injuries or where you are not yet flexible.
This 6-week program offers 2 specialty classes per week, Saturday 11 am and Thursday 7 pm.
Students can attend both of these classes at no extra cost. Each week we will progressively help you build confidence and knowledge to build a solid foundation in the fundamentals of a yoga practice. Students will also have unlimited access to our on-going weekly classes to put into practice straight away what you have learned.
The benefit of putting into practice immediately what you are learning increases the capacity to retain the knowledge. Students will then have real-time questions to ask during the specialty classes on what they are discovering and where they need to most support. Become comfortable and confident faster with ongoing classes. All teachers are fully qualified and highly trained. We teach you how to adjust the practice to suit you. We recognise how different and unique each person is, therefore, the way we each practice yoga will be individual.

We will explore:
Proper Exercise (Asanas) – Yoga poses help develop a strong, healthy body by enhancing flexibility and improving circulation. Each week you will be taken on a journey and guidance to prepare your body for the practice. There is no rush to get somewhere in Yoga, it’s a lifelong journey. With the right support and tips, the journey becomes welcomed and enjoyable. Learn foundational and safe alignment cues as well as variations and progressions from simple to more challenging postures. Once we know yoga it becomes less scary and we realise that we don’t have to be flexible to practice but rather it is what happens to you when you practice.
Proper Breathing (Pranayama) – Pranayama is breathing exercises to help remove physical and emotional stresses that cause tension in your body. Conscious breathing encourages flow of prana – life energy. Regular and sustained practise can supercharge your whole body! Freeing up your breath through pranayama practices we work on letting the life energy/oxygen flow this energizes, relaxes and heals your body, A regular pranayama practice can stimulate the parasympathetic system, countering the overstimulation that happens in our bodies from the stress hormones released from the fight or flight response from unmanaged stresses. Our breathing patterns are very closely linked to our emotional states. We breathe differently when we are angry, excited, tired or when we are nervous. We can calm or energize ourselves by changing our breathing patterns. By taking time out to become more aware of your breath can help to alter your emotional states.
Deep Relaxation – Practicing regular relaxation techniques teach you how to attain a state of calmness. By Slow your heart rate reduces the production of stress hormones which in turn will reduce the wear and tear both physically and emotionally.
Positive Thinking (Vedanta) & Meditation (Dhyana) – These are the true keys in building self-esteem, achieving peace of mind and eliminating negativity in our lives.
Knowledge is Wisdom – The more you understand what you are doing the better uptake of the information and integration of it into your life.

I have really enjoyed the last 6 weeks in the beginners course. This is my first time doing yoga and I was not sure what to expect when I started. My previous exercise/fitness activities have all been more intense and fast paced (not that yoga is easy) ….. and I would have to say now that I have found yoga I wish I had of started 20 years ago! My limited yoga knowledge before taking the course was all related to the poses and movements …. but I understand now that is only a small part of the practice. I have found the classes have made me much more aware of the connection between my mind and body (and breath) – and this has been the greatest benefit for me. The benefits of stilling my mind (even for a short time) have far outweighed any physical benefits I may have gained over the 6 week period (though I am a bit more flexible as well). I am looking forward to continuing to develop and work on this mind / body awareness. The environment at Clayfield Yoga is very comfortable and welcoming – which has helped a complete yoga novice like myself. I have found all of the teachers to be really helpful.. particularly good at explaining the practice, and helping and encouraging along the journey. I am looking forward to making yoga part of my life moving forward and continuing to learn more about all elements of yoga practice. I think giving yoga a try is probably the best thing I have ever done for myself. – Mark
