7 week Beginners Yoga Course

Yoga is a fast growing form of exercise that compliments our lives.  More and more evidence is proving how mental health is just as important as physical health. Yoga is as much a personal inquiry and self exploration as it is to learning how to be physically stronger and flexible.  This course will give you practical tools to adjust this practice to suit your needs. It does not matter if you are an absolute newcomer or looking to learn more, our senior teachers have the experience to support you on your journey.

You will be guide you to a deeper understanding of what to feel in your yoga postures. Learn how you can self adjust to make your practice stronger or more gentle depending on what you need in the moment.

Each sessions will provide you with concepts and cues to breakdown poses. You will get to explore and experiment with what is the best way to practice for Your body. The more you know how to self adjust your posture to suit your daily needs the easier and quicker it becomes to progress into stronger postures safely and with confidence. Knowing how to modify will help you accomodate any injuries or support those little niggles that come with age or lack of movement.

This course is designed to progress. The first week will start off with movements to prepare your body and your awareness. The under-rated, over-looked joint rotations are the foundations of any movement. Regular rotation of our bodies joints is one of the most effective ways to remove stagnation (acidic toxins), increase circulation, and improve flexibility in our muscular system. These simple yet effective exercises help to reduce the onset of painful joints by removing the stiffness accumulated over night from sleeping or daily if our bodies have been stationery or inactive, even in repetitive work where some parts of body do not move very much at all.

The following weeks will move through other foundational postures from Standing and Balance (which gets lost as we age) Core and seated poses, Forward folds, Backbends, Twists, and finish with Arm balance and Inversions that even your grandma can do. I kid you not, there is an inversion for every body and we look forward in showing you.

This 7 week program is offering 5x classes per week. We allow students to attend any of these classes for no extra cost.  Whether you come make it once or 5 times, over the 7 weeks we will progressively help you build confidence and knowledge for a solid foundation in the yoga postures. All teachers are all fully qualified and highly trained. We will help you adjust the practice to suit you as we recognise how different and unique we all are and therefore will not make you feel like you have to fit into.

We will explore:

Proper Exercise (Asanas)
Yoga poses help develop a strong, healthy body by enhancing flexibility and improving circulation. Each week you will be taken on a journey and guidance to prepare your body for the practice.  There is no rush to get somewhere in yoga, its a life long journey.  With the right support and tips the journey becomes welcomed and enjoyable.  Learn foundational and safe alignment cues as well as variations and progressions from simple to more challenging postures. Once we know yoga it becomes less scary and we realise that we don’t have to be flexible to practice but rather it is what happens to you when you practice.

Proper Breathing (Pranayama)
Deep, conscious breathing reduces stress and many diseases. Proper breathing helps you the full benefits from the yoga postures.

Proper Relaxation
Helps keep the body from going into overload mode, easing worry and fatigue.

Positive Thinking (Vedanta) & Meditation (Dhyana)
These are the true keys in building self esteem, achieving peace of mind and eliminating negativity in our lives.

Knowledge is wisdom
The more you understand what you are doing the better uptake of the information and integration of it into your life.

Address, Parking, & What You Need to Know Before Class

Address: 30 Wagner St, Clayfield.
Cnr Vine St and Wagner Rd, Clayfield.
Clayfield Yoga Studio is top floor of the Clayfield School of Arts Building.

Parking for Clayfield Yoga Studio
Parking is available on Wagner Street and Vine Streets. There is also ample parking on Liverpool Road, which runs off Wagner. If you park near there and it’s a 2 minute walk to the studio!

Be Prepared:
  • Arrive 10-15 min early to your first class so you have time to get familiar and settled.
  • We have all the equipment you will need at the studio, just bring a small towel and water bottle.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to do exercise in.
  • Eat at least an hour before class, but a little snack or smoothie is great for low blood sugars.
  • Drink 1 – 2 glasses of water 30 min before class to make sure you are hydrated and alert.
  • Full payment is required prior to commencing
  • Due to the number of classes on offer new students can continue to book in anytime after start date.
  • Payment is for this course only.
  • With a heavily discounted rate this course will have no make up classes, credits (after 5 days) or refunds made available.

I have really enjoyed the last 6 weeks in the beginners course.  This is my first time doing yoga and I was not sure what to expect when I started.  My previous exercise/fitness activities have all been more intense and fast paced (not that yoga is easy) ….. and I would have to say now that I have found yoga I wish I had of started 20 years ago! My limited yoga knowledge before taking the course was all related to the poses and movements …. but I understand now that is only a small part of the practice.  I have found the classes have made me much more aware of the connection between my mind and body (and breath) – and this has been the greatest benefit for me.  The benefits of stilling my mind (even for a short time) have far outweighed any physical benefits I may have gained over the 6 week period (though I am a bit more flexible as well).  I am looking forward to continuing to develop and work on this mind / body awareness. The environment at Clayfield Yoga is very comfortable and welcoming – which has helped a complete yoga novice like myself.  I have found all of the teachers to be really helpful.. particularly good at explaining the practice, and helping and encouraging along the journey. I am looking forward to making yoga part of my life moving forward and continuing to learn more about all elements of yoga practice.  I think giving yoga a try is probably the best thing I have ever done for myself. – Mark
